* 2013/2014 Winter Alley Plowing*

Well now that a little snow has hit the ground, its time to think about winter in Wisconsin.

My name is Peter July. I live at 2164 N 51st Street.  I have made arrangements with Volmer Plowing to plow our alley between Hi Mount and 51st Street this winter. We have used their services since 2010 and everyone seems satisfied with their work.  The company also plows the alley between 51st Street and 52nd Street and they have been satisfied with their services for years.
As you probably know, the city does not plow the alleys. However it is important to keep them clear so that garbage can be picked up regularly.

I would like to thank everyone who donated last year.  I collected enough money to cover the cost of plowing and sent Frankie a small tip.   I am again asking for donations for plowing this winter.  A donation of $20 per single family household or $10 per duplex unit will cover the costs for a single winter.

Due to several questions last year, I would like to add some information.  I go door to door for donations and am unable to contact land lords that do no live on our block to contribute.  It would be great if all of us are able to contribute this year.

Frankie Volmer will plow the alley when the snow reaches 3 inches. If you have any questions concerning the plowing please feel free to contact Frankie at 414-616-6364. I have called her in the past when it got a little icy and she came by the next day.

If I missed you, please place your donation in the mail slot in my front door..

Thank you for your help!

Auto Break-In

Hi Everyone! I'm officially a resident of N 51st Street as of July 1st, but I'm mostly moved in now. As Eric posted in the blog earlier, I got a not-so-welcome welcome as my car was broken into sometime between 11pm Friday night and 7am Saturday morning. The perpetrators tried to pry the doors open and when they didn't accomplish that, they broke the back door window. I didn't have anything valuable or identifying in my car, so they caused a lot of damage for nothing. Both door frames were damaged as well as having to replace the window. This kind of thing really doesn't happen around here, or at least, it didn't. Michelle, the owner of the house i live in parked her car here for years with nothing happening to it, so who knows. If you have any information about this crime, it would be most appreciated.

Prevent Automobile Related Theft

I would like to take a moment to welcome Stacy Mc Kinnon to our nieghborhood. Unfortunatily Stacy had her car broken into this weekend. If anyone saw anything unusual, please leave a comment below. Here is an old post that discusses some tips to help limit your chances of becoming a victim.

The majority of E-notify crime notification in our neighborhood are locked vehicle entry or theft. In light of the problems we're having on our block, here are a few ways to protect yourself from automobile theft.

  1. Lock your doors

  2. Don’t leave valuables in plain view.

  3. Beware of identity theft. Don’t leave important documents such as bank statements, credit card bills, or other personal information in your vehicle.

  4. Never leave your title or registration in your car.

  5. Park in a well lit area.

  6. Use your garage, roll up windows and lock door too.
For a list of 40 other tips click here. Just a reminder, well lit areas can help reduce crime. Turn your porch light at night and ask your neighbors near you to do the same.
